I saw it the day I was meant to find it

A hard core gymnast from 3rd to 11th grade, daily training, tough workouts, dance classes and stressful competitions were the norm. Competitive fencing replaced gymnastics and then martial arts eventually became my focus for more than a decade after that. Lured by the idea of cross-training, an afternoon bike ride with friends somehow morphed into 25+ years ( and still counting) of racing bicycles both on and off-road. To say I love athletic competition is an understatement. (more…)

Rising Up to Greater Heights

I am a Soldier and have been in the military for 29 years. I was brought to yoga to increase my flexibility from years of running and not properly stretching. I started doing some on-line and video yoga workouts in 2014. After a knee surgery in 2015 I knew I really had to challenge myself to increase my flexibility so I started to attend some local classes. A friend was teaching classes at the local library and I started to attend her classes.

I fell in love with yoga and the way it not only made my body feel but also my mind and spirit. Soon I was attending every possible class I could. The transformation that I could see in myself gave me the desire to one day help others achieve the same. In 2015 I knew that one day I would embark on a path to be a yoga instructor. In 2016 my work transferred me 350 miles across the Pennsylvania (from Erie to Philadelphia).

Trust me, I’ve got this!

I don’t know how, when or why I lost trust.  Maybe it was all of those politicians issuing promises they’d never keep.  Perhaps it was all of those executives from Philly sports teams assuring us that a world championship was right around the corner.  Who knows, it may have begun when I was a kid and learned the truth about Santa Claus.  Regardless of when it happened, I had become a cynical old curmudgeon.  I was 57 years old, flabby and lethargic.  I had a grouchy disposition and an aching back.  In short, I was a mess.

Then one day I walked into Nourishing Storm.  That was a year and a half ago, and my life has been changing for the better ever since.

The catalyst for my transformation is named Kristin.  From the moment we met, I recognized that there is something unique and special about this lady.  She possesses the most pure and joyful spirit I’ve ever encountered.  Her faith in, and compassion for, her students is absolute and unwavering.  I am continually inspired by her eternal optimism.  And she is relentless in her drive to achieve.  Kristin has taught me so many things, much more than just yoga poses.  Most important among these lessons is this.  Once I’ve learned to trust myself, all of my goals would be attained as soon as I committed to them, only the journey would remain.  It wasn’t a concept I easily embraced, but I trusted Kristin and followed her guidance.  Soon I started to see results and my confidence soared.

About a year after my first yoga class, Kristin invited me to join Nourishing Storm’s latest Teacher’s Training course.  I initially balked, having previously read the daunting curriculum.  But Kristin would have none of my defeatism and knew exactly how to handle my reluctance.  After a good dose of her encouragement, I was not only convinced but excited for the class to begin.   We just finished our first training weekend.  It was absolutely amazing, highly enlightening and thoroughly inspiring.   The weekend has also confirmed the fact that this class will be as challenging as it is rewarding.  But that’s alright because I’m no longer a quitter.  Now I’m an achiever.  So, in almost exactly one year I will graduate from Nourishing Storm’s RYT 200 hour Teachers Training program.  Trust me, I’ve got this!

Shining with love, hope and light!

Posted by with No Comments

A little over a year ago I walked into Nourishing Storm during a very sad time in  my life.  I was 33 years old, newly diagnosed with breast cancer and recovering from a bilateral mastectomy. My hope was that yoga might help with my recovery, especially the newly acquired stiffness in my arms and chest.  Little did I know, that day was the very first step on my new path to much more than just physical recovery. After a health and wellness consultation with Kristin and reading many books she recommended, I realized that I was looking at cancer and life in general in the wrong light. Practicing yoga and meditation has helped me clear my mind and trust my intuition while building my confidence.  Since that first step was taken, I have been on a holistic journey with yoga as my foundation and I couldn’t be more grateful for all of the amazing people at Nourishing Storm that have walked this path with me!  Fast forward to a year later and my life is simply amazing as my husband and I are expecting our first baby!  8 months pregnant and I’m still strong enough to do not only one, but three chaturangas!  Yoga has pulled me out of my comfort zone and onto a beautiful new path that shines with love, hope and light!

Finding time that I somehow didn’t know I had …

Posted by with No Comments
” As a wife, mother, RN and CCM, I am much more comfortable taking care of others rather than myself. Firmly in middle age and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, I was well aware of the gamble that I was taking with my future health. Then, a wonderful friend asked if I could come with her to Nourishing Storm. I had never done yoga and was still fairly skeptical after signing up for the 30 day introductory offering. Well, that was about 8 months ago. I typically go now about three times a week to one of the yoga classes – finding time that I somehow didn’t even know I had. I have now tried a variety of their classes, even meditation, and dream of the day that I can do a crow pose. Everyone is welcoming, kind and thoughtful. I cannot believe how quickly my fitness level has risen even with the beginner classes and some shifts have definitely occurred with my perspective on life in general. I was even pleasantly surprised when my husband asked me a few months into my yoga practice if he could come to a class noting how he saw me benefiting and was intrigued for himself. Finally, besides the fun and inviting studio and cafe atmosphere, I would be remiss if I did not mention that they also make an amazing espresso!”
