Ayurvedic Marma Therapy

Similar to acupressure, Marma therapy is an ancient Ayurvedic healing therapy used to increase the flow of energy throughout the body. This therapy has been in practice in India since 1500BC. Prana (chi, Vital Life Force, primordial energy, that energy that gives life) flows through the body through channels called nadis (Sanskrit for “rivers”). Along these nadis, there are points where consciousness meets matter. At these points our subtle or energetic bodies meet our gross or physical bodies. These are the places were blood vessels, nerves, bone and connective tissue and the nadis intersect. Like most intersections, these are the sites most prone to traffic jams and accidents. Toxins, stress and deep seated emotions can create blockages and can disrupt the flow of prana. If allowed to remain blocked, this imbalance of flow may lead to pain, disfunction or create a vulnerability to disease.

The points are lightly massaged with an increasing pressure (firm, not deep) with the application of essential oils, herbs, sound therapy and gentle heat as found to be needed. The session typically lasts an hour with either a most of the 107 points being manipulated briefly or specific areas targeted as indicated by the client’s constitution and current situation. The session can be performed with the client fully clothed, making it an ideal therapy for those who have avoided massage in the past for this reason. Marma therapy can be a deeply relaxing experience for the mind, body and spirit.

Balancing Detox Massage

This massage starts with a full body dry massage treatment using traditional Ayurvedic Garshana gloves made from raw silk.  This exfoliating treatment stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems, helping to move toxins out of the body.  The raw silk also helps to polish (which is what garshana means!) the skin removing dead skin cells and, when done regularly, diminishing the appearance of cellulite.  The garshana treatment is followed by a warmed oil, invigorating massage using Ayurvedic oils based on your elemental constitution.

$101 for detox program participants and NS members
