I am new to yoga, what do I need to know before my first class?
Yoga is for everyone, every shape, every size, every level of experience. At Nourishing Storm, we love sharing the practice with new students as the benefits can be transformational and serve to fulfill whatever one is looking for ie. balance, strength, flexibility, peace and so much more. You do not need to know anything or have any experience to begin yoga. We just ask that you keep in mind that yoga is a practice and it does take time. The best practice you can have is one where you listen to your body and we’ll teach you how to do that.
What do I need to bring to class?
You do not need to bring anything to class, however most students like to bring their own mat, towel and water. We offer loaner mats, bolsters, blocks and straps and have complimentary water along with a variety of smoothies, juices, coffee, tea and healthy foods for purchase in the cafe.
How many students are in classes?
We pride ourselves in being a small, intimate studio, so you get personal attention as well as feel there is enough space for you to stretch out! Each class varies in size but on average we have about 8-12 students in each class.
Do I need to sign up for classes online ahead of time?
You do not need to sign up ahead of time online, but it is preferred. Our studio only fits a certain amount of students per class so students that sign up for class will get first priority when the classes fill. Signing up takes about a minute once your account is created (and we even have our own app, just look in the app store for “Nourishing Storm”). If you are not sure how to do this, we’ll show you how!
What are the best classes for beginners?
All instructors in each class will give modifications and variations to each pose so our classes are open to all levels. However, the following classes are geared towards a slow, gentle practice that is great for beginners: Yoga Calm, Yoga Bliss, Yoga Restore and Yoga Begin (this course is now offered online at https://nourishingstorm.teachable.com and we also offer this in the Studio the last Saturday of every month at noon.) Other classes such as Yoga Flow and Yoga Strong move a little quicker and are less instructional, but lots of fun.
How do I get started?
You can either stop in the cafe and talk to one of our juice bar gals or you can create an account online by signing up for your first class. We offer packages for those new to yoga and those new to our studio in addition to class cards, drop ins and membership. More info on getting started here.
