Dolphin pose incorporates many ways to rediscover the balance of effort vs ease, strength vs flexibility, spaciousness vs expansiveness and staying grounded vs taking flight. It offers the opportunity to stretch or strengthen your shoulders and is one of the best prep poses for an inversion. Come in gently and enjoy discovering all the benefits of practicing this playful posture.

Directions

  1. Start in Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog).

  2. On exhalation release your forearms to the mat.

  3. Take your gaze slightly forward between your arms.

  4. Stay for a few breaths and continue to an inversion such as Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance) or draw your knees down and release into a childs pose.

Modifications

  • Soften your knees by slightly bending them or bring them to the floor.

  • Place a block between your hands to keep your forearms straight.
